- I want to take care of my leather goods easily.
- I don’t want to bother with shoe polishing, but I want my leather shoes to last longer.
- I want to keep my faux leather bag from peeling off.
- Is there a cream that can take care of everything in one bottle?
Leather products such as bags, wallets, and shoes, made of genuine leather or synthetic leather, will gradually dry out, lose their luster, fade in color, and look tired if they are used without care.
If you are too lazy to take care of your leather items, they will eventually get moldy or become stiff, and you may have to throw them away.
But with “Renapur Leather Balsam,” it’s really easy to take care of everything from dirt removal to shine.
I’ve been using “Renapur” leather treatment cream in my house for about 20 years!
Renapur is a leather treatment that removes stains and adds shine to leather products and synthetic leather.
But that’s not all!
It can be used to clean furniture and other wood products, metal, plastic, and even rubber products.
It is the perfect all-purpose cream that you can use to take care of everything if you have one in the house. And it lasts quite a long time.
This article will provide an easy-to-understand explanation of such a useful “Renapur.”
Renapur Leather Balsam is such a handy cleaning cream that you can use on just about anything with one bottle!

What is Renapur Leather Balsam?
Renapur Leather Balsam is a leather treatment for leather goods made in Germany.
It began as a hand-made product in 1988 in a small factory in southern Germany and is still made using traditional recipes. Today, it is used in over 35 countries around the world.
It is used by professional leather goods craftsmen and workshops, and is an easy-to-use care cream that removes dirt, adds shine, and replenishes nutrients.
It provides oil to leather products with natural ingredients such as beeswax and jojoba oil and protects the surface with natural wax ingredients. Using Renapur will bring back the natural luster of your leather products.
It also has water repellent and mildew-preventing features and basically does not require any waterproofing spray. Since it is a natural ingredient, it has no smell.
In addition, although it is originally designed for genuine leather products, it can also be used to care for faux leather.
It can be used for various applications, including furniture and other wooden products, metal, artificial leather (faux leather), and plastic.
First, I would like to go into more detail about the recommendations and effects of Renapur.
[Renapur Leather Balsam] 8 Recommendations and Benefits
There are eight major points and effects of Renapur Leather Balsam.
Recommendations of Renapur 1: Only natural ingredients and no unpleasant odor
Renapur Leather Balsam is a product developed based on the concept of “Maintenance products that do not harm humans or the environment.”
And all-natural ingredients are used in the leather cream, which is safe and secure even for people with sensitive skin.
These are the only four ingredients used in Renapur Leather Balsam.
- Beeswax: Natural wax extracted from the residue after the honey is taken from a beehive.
- Jojoba oil: Oil extracted from the seeds of the “jojoba” plant. It is a popular oil used as a serum and moisturizer.
- Vaseline: A highly purified moisturizer made from petroleum, a natural ingredient that forms a thin film to prevent moisture from evaporating. It is non-irritating and is also used for medical purposes.
- Lanolin: Refined sheep’s fat produced when sheep’s wool is sheared and acts as a waterproofing agent.
Some of you may be familiar with these four ingredients. They are all-natural ingredients that are often used in cosmetics.
Only these four ingredients are used in Renapur, and only those ingredients that meet the standards for cosmetics are used.
As you can see, Renapur is made of all-natural ingredients and does not have the smell of organic solvents characteristic of leather creams.
It does have a slightly sour beeswax smell, but it’s not that much.
Renapur is safe to use even for those who do not like the smell of organic solvents and babies and small children.
Recommendations of Renapur 2: Can be used for faux leather, metal, and wooden products
It is not only genuine leather where you can use Renapur Leather Balsam!
It can be used to clean faux leather and metal, wooden furniture, rubber products, plastic, and many other things.
- Leather: smooth leather (glossy leather), enameled leather, exotic leather
- Faux leather
- Metals
- Wood products
- Natural and synthetic rubber
- Plastics
Here are some examples of products that can be used with Renapur. These are just a few examples.
Examples of leather products where Renapur can be used
Leather shoes, leather bags, handbags, leather wallets, leather jackets, leather sofas, faux leather bags and wallets, car dashboards and seats, and others
Renapur is quite convenient because there are various leather creams that can be used for genuine leather products but not for faux leather.
Synthetic leather peels off as it dries. When this happens, you have no choice but to repair it. However, if you can prevent the peeling before it happens, synthetic leather will last longer.
Ref:>>>Here is an easy way to repair a synthetic leather bag that is peeled off.
Examples of other products where Renapur can be used
Wooden furniture, golf clubs, fishing rods, bowling balls, tennis rackets, and white sneakers, etc.
You can even take care of things that you might think can be used for such things.
Types of leather where Renapur can be used
Renapur Leather Balsam can be used on a variety of leathers. It can be used not only on smooth leather but also on enameled leather and exotic leather, which usually require special creams.
What is smooth leather (glossy leather)?
Smooth leather is the type that we see most often. The typical leather of the popular Dr. Martens boots is also smooth leather.
Renapur is very easy to spread and can be used on ordinary smooth leather (glossy leather) and the finest and most lustrous leather such as ‘cordovan,’ the highest grade of smooth leather.
What is enamel leather?
Enamel is leather coated with enamel paint to make it shiny and more water-resistant. It is often used for women’s pumps. It’s a glossy leather with a shiny and luxurious surface.
Emulsifying creams for leather products cannot be used for enamel, so enamel leather usually needs to be treated with a special cream.
Renapur can even take care of your enamel products!
What is exotic leather?
Exotic leather is the leather of crocodiles (alligators), ostriches, and other reptiles.
It is pretty expensive due to its imagery and is used for luxury bags and wallets. Renapur can be used safely on such leathers.
Mustang Paste, made only from horse oil, is as famous as Renapur, but it cannot be used on exotic leather (reptilian). In fact, we once used “Mustang Paste” in our house.
But its expiration date was short, and it had to be used within a year after opening the package, so we couldn’t use it up at all and threw it away even though we had quite a bit left. So it was quite a waste.
In this regard, Renapur’s expiration date is 5 years even after opening the package, and if it is kept in a cool and dark place, the quality will not change much after that, so you can use it for a long time.
Even smooth leather can be stained if it is tanned leather. So, to be sure, it is recommended to test it in an inconspicuous part of the product when using it.
What leathers cannot be used with Renapur?
Renapur can be used on a variety of leather products but not on tanned and suede leather.
Tanned leather
Tanned leather is a leather that has been tanned with tannin, an ingredient in the bark of plants.
It is very popular because the more you use it, it gives an additional charm, and over time they develop an excellent, worn look. Also, you can enjoy gradual color change.
Although tanned leather is strong, it is delicate and easily scratched, so it should be handled carefully. It is also known to be vulnerable to water since it has no surface treatment.
Some people use Renapur after sunbathing the tanned leather product to change the appearance of the leather and make it last longer and then using Renapur.
However, because of the possibility of staining, the official website of Renapur does not recommend using it on tanned leather.
Even when you use it on tanned leather, I recommend that you test it thoroughly in an inconspicuous part before using it!
Raised leather such as suede, nubuck, velour, etc.
Renapur Leather Balsam should not be used on raised leathers such as suede or nubuck.
Suede should be cared for by brushing it with a horsehair brush. A safe choice for nubuck leather is M. Mowbray’s Delicate Cream, which we use at home.
This delicate cream is one of the most popular all-purpose creams for leather goods. It is also reasonably priced, so we recommend it. But it can not be used for enamel.
Recommendations of Renapur 3: Can be used on any color leather product
Leather products come in a variety of colors, such as black, brown, white, red, and blue.
If you use colored leather creams, you will have to buy them in different colors, which is expensive and takes up a lot of space.
But with Renapur, you don’t have to. Renapur is a clear, colorless treatment cream that can be used on any color product.
This is quite an important point, isn’t it?
Recommendations of Renapur 4: Getting stains out
Usually, you need to have a variety of products like these to care for your leather products.
- Stain remover: removing stains from leather products
- Moisturizing, nourishing, and shining: emulsifying creams
- Moisturizing effect: delicate cream
However, a single bottle of Renapur can cover all three functions, and it can also “remove dirt and smudge.”
Leather products get dirty, don’t they? Especially bags and wallets that are touched all the time can become stained and blackened. Also, leather shoes can get dirty from dirt and sand.
Leather products are usually treated with a special leather stain remover, but with “Renapur,” you can remove some stains without using a stain remover, and the stains themselves are less likely to stick.
It may seem strange that it can remove stains even though it is a leather treatment, but the four ingredients are thoughtfully blended to remove stains.
However, if the stain is so bad that you just can’t get it off, or if you want to remove the stain better, I recommend using a stain remover specially designed for leather.
Renapur also offers a leather cleaner made from natural ingredients (sugar cane, coconut milk, etc.) but has a strong cleaning effect. In addition, these leather cleaners are friendly to both people and the environment.
Renapur leather cleaner
Here is a recommended stain remover that I use in our home to remove stains from leather products.
It is a product of M. Mowbray, a leading Italian brand for leather products, and is popular because it has no smell and is easy to use.
M.MOWBRAY Stain Remover
Recommendations of Renapur 5: Glossing and protecting leather
If you don’t take care of your leather products with regular nutritional supplements, they will gradually dry out, become hard and cracked, and lose their luster.
Renapur does not have much moisturizing effect, but the ingredients of beeswax and jojoba oil soak into the leather and protect it with the effect of natural wax.
It also prevents stains from sticking to the leather and can be used on synthetic leather, so it is often used to care for dashboards as well as leather seats in cars.
It is also effective in adding luster to the leather, so the leather will have a natural shine after using it.
Of course, it can be used for leather and for wooden furniture, metal, plastic, and others to make them shine and prevent stains.
If you have a Saphir leather repair cream bottle, you can quickly repair leather that is hardened, faded and rubbed.
For more information on how to repair leather products, please click here.
Ref:>>> Easily repair peeling, scratches, and color fading of leather and hide with repair cream!
If you want to revitalize leather that has become completely hardened, you will need to moisturize the leather, so I recommend using M. Mowbray’s Delicate Cream, which I mentioned earlier.
The Delicate Cream is so moisturizing that it can revive even the leather goods which lost their luster that you thought you had to throw away, and you’ll be amazed.
Delicate creams are much cheaper than leather goods, and they have no expiration date, so it is beneficial to have one in the house.
Recommendations of Renapur 6: Water repellent and prevents rain stains
Renapur Leather Balsam has a protective effect where the natural wax component of beeswax stays on the surface and is expected to have a water repellent effect.
However, since it is made of natural ingredients, it is not entirely waterproof like a waterproof spray. Still, if you use Renapur, you can expect a certain degree of waterproofing effect against rainwater and others.
Therefore, if you use Renapur regularly, the leather will be less likely to be damaged by rain, and you can protect it.
Amazingly, you can not only take care of your leather by applying Renapur, but it also has a water repellent effect!
Unlike a waterproof spray, it does not completely repel water, so if you need a high waterproofing effect, we recommend that you apply a waterproof spray.
Here is a standard waterproofing spray that I recommend.
Columbus AMEDAS Waterproof Spray
Recommendations-of Renapur 7: Anti-mold effect
Renapur prevents mold from growing on the surface of the leather because it has a waterproof effect and protects the leather. It also makes it easier to remove the mildew if it does grow.
Honey is widely known for its antiseptic properties, and the beeswax used in Renapur is made from honey and the disinfectant effect that helps prevent mold growth.
I will explain how to get rid of the mold grown in Renapur later in the section on how to use Renapur.
Recommendations of Renapur 8: Reasonable price
The Renapur comes as a set with a sponge for about 30 US dollars. I think it’s a bit expensive, don’t you?
But Renapur is a leather treatment that spreads very well with a small amount, and it can last a long time from my experience!
It is recommended to use a small amount and spread it thinly, so I only use a little…
It’s not liquid, but solid like this, so I just take a little bit with the sponge provided and apply it.
If you use too much, the surface of the leather will become sticky and prone to dirt and dust, and the cream will stick to the surrounding area, so it is best to use a small amount.
The expiration date of Renapur is supposed to be five years, but I have been using it for over five years without any problems.
Even if you use it for a variety of purposes, it’s so cost-effective, and it won’t run out even after five years.
[Renapur Leather Balsam] Disadvantages and Negative Points
Moisturizing power is a little low. / Sticky with excessive use / Harder for other creams to penetrate
There are not many disadvantages of Renapur, but I would venture to say three points.
- Moisturizing power is a little low.
- If you use it too much, it becomes sticky and not suitable for leather.
- Harder for other creams to penetrate
Negative points of Renapur 1: moisturizing power is a little low
The four main ingredients in Renapur are beeswax and jojoba oil. These ingredients effectively remove dirt, nourishing, adding shine, and protecting and repelling water.
However, the main ingredient, beeswax, is mainly used for surface coating, so its moisturizing power is lower than that of leather creams that mainly contain moisturizing ingredients such as lanolin.
Therefore, it is not suitable for repairing or caring for leather left unattended, so having lost its oil content.
For dry leather, I would recommend you to use Mowbray’s Delicate Cream.
Negative points of Renapur 2: becomes sticky and not suitable for leather with excessive use
It is recommended to use a small amount of Renapur in a thin layer. If you apply too much, dirt and dust will easily stick to the leather surface, and the cream will stick to the surrounding area.
Not only that but the permeability of the leather itself can be reduced, which in turn can lead to mold growth.
Some naysayers say that “Renapur” is bad for leather. This is because beeswax, the main ingredient of Renapur, reduces the moisture permeability of the leather itself when applied too much.
To prevent this from happening, apply a little less than you think you should, or wipe it off with a soft cloth if it gets too sticky.
Negative points of Renapur 3: harder for other creams to penetrate
This is also related to the moisture permeability mentioned above. Still, because of the water repellency of Renapur, it is difficult for emulsifying leather creams or delicate creams to penetrate a leather that has been coated with Renapur.
For this reason, if the leather needs to be treated with a delicate cream, it is necessary to remove Renapur with a Renapur remover or a leather stain remover to make the leather completely clean.
If you use Renapur with these things in mind, it is a beneficial leather treatment. However, if you want to remove stains well, I recommend “Renapur’s Leather Cleaner” or “M. Mowbray’s Stain Remover.”
How to use Renapur Leather Balsam
Renapur is a natural product that is very simple to use. Just a thin layer of the product is enough to get the desired effect.
How do you apply just a thin layer?
If you’re wondering how to use it, here’s a detailed explanation. But it’s really easy!
When you buy Renapur, a large white sponge is included in the box (the additional sponge you purchase is yellow).
Unfortunately, I’ve used it quite a bit and getting be frizzle, so I’ll have to buy another one soon.
Add a dab of Renapur to the sponge and spread it in a thin layer on the surface of a leather product. In leather products, it will penetrate to some extent, so you don’t need to wipe dry after the application.
Renapur also functions as a stain remover for leather, so one bottle of it acts as a cleaner and a cream.
The cleaning method of Renapur is very simple, but there are some differences depending on the material, such as the need for final polishing.
Tools to prepare when caring for leather products
For leather products, you can basically clean them with just Renapur and a furnished sponge.
Horsehair brushes are used for brushing off dust and dirt from shoes, bags, and purses. It can also be used to brush off mold that has grown.
These goods can be easily used for leather shoes and moutons, sneakers, and many other applications.
It is convenient to buy and keep one horsehair brush for quick use when you have one, and you can use it all the time.
The one I use at home is the “Mowbray Horsehair Brush.”
How to care with Renapur | leather products
Here is the example of my leather coin purse treated with Renapur.
- STEP 1Brush with a horsehair brushBrush the leather product thoroughly with a horsehair brush to remove dust and dry dirt.
- STEP 2Apply RenapurTake a small amount of Renapur to the sponge and spread it thinly and evenly over the entire surface.
- STEP 3FinishThat’s all!
Renapur is a care cream that gives a natural shine rather than a glossy finish, but you can see that the shine is more apparent after the care.
If the leather surface remains sticky, the amount of Renapur is too much, and you should use a smaller amount. If you have applied too much, wipe it off with a soft cloth.
How to care with Renapur | enameled leather products
- STEP 1Remove dirtIf stains are noticeable, remove all stains with a soft cloth.
- STEP 2Apply RenapurApply a small amount of Renapur to the sponge and spread it thinly and evenly over the entire surface.
- STEP 3Wipe with a moistened soft clothAfter Renapur is applied, its surface may look dull, but don’t panic! Let it sit for a few minutes, then lightly wipe it with a soft cloth moistened with water.
- STEP 4Polish up with a soft clothUse a soft cloth to slide over the surface of the leather, polishing it quickly and without force.
You can substitute other fabrics for the cloth, even a used t-shirt. Flannel cloths are especially convenient because they can be used for various purposes, such as removing dirt, finishing, and polishing silver surfaces.
Renapur is recommended to care for enamel leather, as it brings out the natural luster and prevents rainwater from penetrating the leather.
Enamel leather is easily scratched, so avoid scrubbing or brushing it with a stiff brush.
How to care with Renapur | faux leather products
Artificial leather always peels and cracks with use. This is caused by the faux leather drying out.
Unlike genuine leather, there is nothing you can do with faux leather once it becomes tattered, so it is best to take care of it with Renapur before that happens.
- STEP 1Brush with a horsehair brushBrush the leather product with a horsehair brush to remove dust and dry dirt.
- STEP 2Apply RenapurApply a small amount of Renapur to the sponge and spread it thinly and evenly over the entire surface.
- STEP 3Polish up with a soft clothWipe the coated area with a soft cloth to make it shiny.
Compared to genuine leather, faux leather requires slower penetration of Renapur, so the amount of Renapur used at one time should be much less than for genuine leather.
It is recommended to use Renapur because it prevents artificial leather from drying out, which slows down and prevents deterioration such as cracking and peeling, which are common problems with faux leather.
How to care with Renapur | wooden products
I actually cleaned and polished wooden chest drawers with Renapur.
For wooden furniture, necessary items for the treatment are Renapur, a sponge, and a soft cloth.
- STEP 1Remove dirt with a soft cloth.Wipe the surface of the product to be cleaned lightly with a soft cloth to remove dirt. If there is water on the surface, dry it well.
- STEP 2Apply RenapurTake a small amount of Renapur to the sponge, apply a thin, and evenly coat along the wood grain. It is convenient to use a soft toothbrush or similar tool for carved areas.
- STEP 3Repeat STEP 2While checking the condition of the wood, repeat STEP 2 several times if necessary to your liking.
You can see that the stain has been removed, and a natural luster has appeared.
When you use Renapur on wooden products, the oils such as jojoba oil and lanolin will penetrate and prevent the wood from cracking and drying out. In addition, beeswax and Vaseline will prevent the absorption of moisture from the outside.
It is also recommended because it gives a natural-looking shine.
- This product is not recommended for use on wooden paulownia products, as it may cause staining.
- When using wooden furniture, please check the color of the wood in an inconspicuous part before use.
- When using Renapur on wooden floors, the surface may become slippery, so please be very careful when using it instead of wax.
How to care with Renapur | other metals, plastics, etc.
Renapur can also be used to clean all other metal items such as golf clubs, car wheels, and plastic items such as helmets.
- STEP 1Remove dirt with a soft clothWipe the surface of the product to be cleaned lightly with a soft cloth to remove dirt. If the stain is severe, use a stain remover to clean the product. Make sure the surface is dry and free of moisture.
- STEP 2Apply RenapurTake a small amount of Renapur on the sponge and spread it thinly and evenly over the entire surface.
- STEP 3Polish up with a clothWipe the applied area with a soft cloth to remove excess cream and polish it up shiny.
Number of times to care with Renapur
How often should I care with Renapur?
The recommended number of times to use Renapur varies depending on the product, but basically, you can use it when the product loses its luster or becomes dirty.
This is the recommended usage written on the official website. But I guess I don’t have to do it that often…
- Leather shoes: once a week to once every 10 days
- Leather bags: once every month to several months
- Leather jacket, leather coat: once every 2~3 months
- Car seats: once every 2 to 3 months
- Leather furniture: several times a year
How to care with Renapur | if mold has grown on the leather
If you have mold on your leather, the followings are the procedure to take care of the leather.
- STEP 1Remove mold with a horsehair brush, etc.If mold has grown on the leather, first brush it off with a brush to remove as much of the mold as possible. If you don’t have a horsehair brush, use a toothbrush.
- STEP 2Wipe with a cloth containing a small amount of waterApply a small amount of water to a cloth (soft cloth such as a T-shirt) and wipe off the mold.
- STEP 3Remove the mold with a dab of Renapur.Take a small amount of Renapur on the sponge and wipe off the remaining mold carefully.
- STEP 4Repeat STEP 2 and 3If STEP 2 and 3 are repeated two or three times, it will be difficult for mold to grow after this.
- STEP 5Dry in the shadeDry in the dark place and dry it well.
I recommend disposing of the sponge used for mold removal to prevent mold from transferring to other products.
